Dome Break Down

PSI Displays

R2-D2 has two PSI displays in his dome. One is on the front of the dome and blinks red/blue. The other is on the back of the dome and blinks yellow/green. PSI stands for "Processor Status Indicator," and indicates what's going on inside R2's brain.

Both PSIs can be seen in the diagram on the left.

Hardware

I have a Raspberry Pi Pico WH running both PSIs from a 5v input. The same Pico is also plugged into a Pico Servo controller which opens the pie panels and dome panels via MQTT commands.

The Front PSI light is a 8 LED 32mm Ring - WS2812B RGB LED (Neopixel compatible)  with a WS2812B 16 LED Pixel Ring Panel, daisy chained to it. Both WS2812B were purchase from Ebay.

The LED holders are in Mr Baddeley's STL files. The holds are printed in PLA and fixed to the dome with a hot gun. The lights are also fixed to the holders with a hot gun.

For information on the code used please refer to the coding section.

The Servo controller I used is the Servo Driver Module for Raspberry Pi Pico by Wave Share. Its a 16 channel controller. Thought the lights are connected directly to the Pico.

The display different colour's a patterns depending on what R2 is processing or feeling. Example; all red means he is unhappy or has an issue. Blue is chilled and Blue \ Red means he is running normally. Rainbow circles means he is excited about something.
